NOW, WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?

Quick background - More than a year ago, Paul Peregrine, photographer and designer of Lightware photo equipment cases, brought to the attention of Gary Regester, one very blinder-ed "old school" traveling-type photographer, the rather amazing news that Nikon had recently (OK, July 2003) introduced an "intelligent" on-camera flash called the SB800 and that that on-camera flash. . . didn't need to be "on-camera" anymore.  Paul reminded me of my futuristic 1984 brochure, "Studio in a Shoebox" back in the early  Chimera days. And he revealed growing aficionado groups like the "Strobists" - whatever they are.

TEAM effort - Paul and I began a collaboration on the "Grin&Stir" (get it?) FourSquare project which you may already be aware of, but if not, take a look at recent Grin&Stir Four Square reviews: Dave Black, Bob Krist, Sports Shooter and Sports Shooter Academy. 

ADD the WAFER - The four lightbanks I have designed for the Grin&Stir project are intentionally extra deep due to the various fixed forward designs of many of the on-camera flash units.  But for those of you shooting with articulating "older" Vivitar 283s to the newest Nikon SB900s and beyond, the much thinner WAFERs works even better, more than double the output.  In addition, the Wafer's inner baffles lets you further distribute the light and avoid any "hot spots".
